Install the Block OTA profile

Use Safari on the target device. iOS handles configuration profiles through Settings, so the download itself does not complete the installation.

  1. 01

    Download the Block OTA profile

Open this page in Safari on the iPhone or iPad that should receive the profile, then start the download below.

    Safari → Download profile
  2. 02

    Open the downloaded profile

Open Settings and select Profile Downloaded near the top of the screen. If it is not visible, check VPN & Device Management.

    Settings → Profile Downloaded
  3. 03

    Review before installing

Confirm the profile name, signer, payload, and removal behavior. Do not continue when any profile information is unexpected.

    Profile details → More Details
  4. 04

    Install and restart

Tap Install, follow the iOS confirmation prompts, and restart the device if Settings requests it.

    Install → Confirm → Restart
02 / Verify

Check the Software Update screen

After installation and restart, open Software Update. On supported systems, the device may report that it is up to date or stop presenting the OTA release that was previously offered.

Settings → General → Software Update

Expected check
No OTA update is being offered

Exact wording varies by iOS version. If an update still appears, review the installed profile and the limitations below rather than repeatedly reinstalling unknown files.

03 / Remove profile

Restore normal OTA update checks

Remove the configuration profile whenever you want to return to the normal Apple software update flow.

  1. 01

    Open device management

Go to Settings and open the list of configuration profiles installed on the device.

Settings → General → VPN & Device Management
  2. 02

    Select the OTA profile

Choose the Block OTA profile and inspect it once more to make sure you are removing the intended configuration.

    Configuration Profile → Block OTA
  3. 03

    Remove and restart

Tap Remove Profile, enter the device passcode when requested, and restart before checking for updates again.

    Remove Profile → Restart

After removal, restart the device and return to Software Update. It may take a short time for Apple update services to refresh the available release.

04 / Important notes

Understand the limitations

Blocking behavior is not permanent

Apple can change profile handling, update delivery, and device-management behavior in later iOS releases.

Inspect every profile before installation

Only install a file from a trusted source, verify its payload, and confirm that it can be removed from Settings.

Keep a recovery path

Back up important data before changing update behavior, especially on devices used for beta testing or development.

Need help?

If the profile does not appear in Settings or the update remains visible, collect the iOS version, device model, and installed profile details before requesting support.
